Two Cries of Freedom

[José Serrano: ‘Soleá’]

From Two Cries of Freedom: Gypsy Flamenco from the Prisons of Spain (ROIR, 1998), feat. José Serrano and Antonio “El Agujetas”.

Dedicated to Paul ‘Jock’ Palfreeman, a 23 year old Australian currently in prison in Sofia, Bulgaria. He is undergoing trial on charges of murder and attempted murder after an encounter with a gang of 16 far-right football hooligans. The gang were assaulting two Roma (Gypsy) men when Jock intervened in their defence.

More bloggery below the fold.

Marxism:

Terry Eagleton on Walter Benjamin on history.

Anarchism:

Kropotkin on poverty. Cuban libertarians speak against Castro 1 and 2. Against Leninism without Lenin.

Me:
Shoot them like partridges (Trotsky and Kronstadt).

  1. You say dude,

    “.
That is did he kill some of these football hooligans,
    16 of them you say.
I am sorry but it seems an unlikely story.
Surely the football hooligans would be more likely to sort him out that than thgis.
    Is there further evidence.?

I like the music that you have put with this, although I could not understand the words.

  3. I am interested to read the article referred to above:
Two Cries of Freedom: Gypsy Flamenco from the Prisons of Spain (ROIR, 1998), feat. José Serrano and Antonio “El Agujetas”.

The singer in this song went to jail nearly twenty years ago because being the youngest in the family he took the rap.
    Doesn’t say much for gypsy.

  5. Here is the story of Jock, from where I got it from:

November 30, 2009 : International Day of Justice for Jock Palfreeman

No, he didn’t kill 16 people. He is alleged to have killed one, in a fight with 16, in a fight he joined after seeing the 16 attack a small number of Roma people.

I’ll listen again to the song and see if I can come up with any of the words.
